Forever War

David Sabre's second release is a neoclassical soundscape exploring the themes of Europe's fratricidal wars and American-led globalisation. 'To the Fallen Ones (Eternal Two)' is all the more poignant for its gentle understatement. 'Skies Of Belgrade' - complete with air-raid sirens - evokes the recent bombing onslaught, whilst 'Enter Ashland' - featuring a sample from the film Europa - draws a parallel with the achievements of an earlier US bombing campaign. An unreferenced seventh track driven by martial drumming presumably stands as a call to resistance, but it also has some other scraps and a long passage of silence making you wonder if the hidden track was left there by mistake. Hidden tracks are a gimmick but no longer a novelty.
