Water & Fire

Strahan Coleman, a singer/song-writer from Auckland releases his debut EP, a pure and beautiful offering birthed from a passionate faith. Dropping the last name and adopting the artist name of just 'Strahan' (which is far more thugging), Strahan's music is an intimate insight, exploring themes of faith, love, praise and the character of God. This EP is simply incredible; well-crafted and written, performed and recorded in a way that makes it feel like a private performance, but more in the way that it evokes you're an actual part of the song and feelings explored and the music is simply a reflection of your own personal offering (how does he do this? Some sort of wizard!?).

　　Musically, it's a blend of rhythmic folk pop. Similar to a few bands popping up all over the place, but unlike his contemporaries Mumford & Sons and Avalanche City, it has less grand-like drive and cheese and a more intimate, folk purity and heart feel. Driving guitar and rhythmic strumming, along with melodic electric and drum/tambourine pomp in the builds make for a real heart-felt set of songs. Along with his soft, emotive voice and harmonies, the lyrics emphasis the emotion and sincerity of his craft...and he's not shy to pour out his faith into his lyrics - which is real nice!

　　Teaming up with Avalanche City cat, Dave Baxter, to help with the EP - proves to be a successful decision. The EP is clean and crisp sounding, without losing any of that nice folk intimacy. It's clear his music is stemmed from a big passion and love for what he does, and I can not emphasis enough how good, fresh and sincere this EP is...you'll have to check it out yourself!
