A World to Drown In

Ever heard of The Loveless? Well, Blazing Eternity certainly has: though ”A World To Drown In” by no means imitates ”Star Rover”, certain details, such as song structures, songwriting styles and even guitar sounds (especially the admittably cool chorus effect) are very similiar, and the overall idea of the music – rock/metal light in sound but dark in atmosphere – is not unlike The Loveless. At heaviest, this album can be much more so than its apparent influence, but there are also light rock songs solely relying on melancholic feelings and brooding atmosphere. The heavier parts are essentially doom metal, although lighter, in the same sense as their countrymen's, The Gathering's, albums ”Mandylion” and ”Nighttime Birds”, but unlike those two albums, Blazing Eternity succesfully maintains the dark feelings and musical expression of depression characteristic to doom metal.
