Trebles And Blues

In 2011, Trebles and Blues teamed up with The Soul Dojo Music Group to release his debut instrumental album, The Blue Note. This project was downloaded over 16,000 times, and its reach extended to various parts of the world (from Japan to the UK, and yes, even to Kazakhstan!). It received coverage on numerous online publications such as LA Music Blog, MTV Iggy, Complex Media, Potholes In My Blog, and more. In 2012, Trebles and Blues executive produced We Are Hypergiants, the debut album from Seattle-based rapper, Gowe. This album went on to receive widespread acclaim, and one of its songs, “Aurora”, was featured on Kotaku and has racked up over 260,000 YouTube plays to date. He then embarked on a multi-city tour throughout the United States with Gowe, playing shows in Denver, Boston, Florida, Seattle, and more. In 2013, Trebles and Blues wanted to re-focus his creativity on his solo work and experiment with new sounds. The result was From My Father, his second instrumental album that captured his father’s journey as a Korean immigrant that came to the United States, but was abruptly deported back to Korea after fifteen years of living in California. This tale of struggle, reflection, reunification, and eventual triumph was captured through this 18-track album that only sampled Korean folk music, much of which was provided to Trebles by his father himself. Later that year, Trebles joined Tokyo-based label, Absolut Zero, and contributed four songs on their debut compilation, The Cool Vol. 1. The album was featured in Tower Records Shibuya, and received a widespread release throughout the country. 2014 was also a busy year for Trebles. He joined his childhood friend, No Alias, and together they formed the duo Days of Contrast. They released their first collaborative project, When Life Was Simpler, which was met with a glowing review from the reputable UK-based blog, The Word is Bond. He then followed up this release with Moleskines and Pocket Squares, a collaborative project with Michigan-based emcee, James Gardin. Finally, he rounded out the year by releasing his third solo instrumental effort, Seasonality, which incorporated the elements of Brazilian funk and soul into his craft. In addition to his career as a musician, Trebles and Blues also worked extensively in the music education space as well. In 2011, he joined Sessions LA, a music writing, beatmaking, recording, and DJ’ing program for youth and young adults in Los Angeles. He helped to develop the school year’s music production curriculum for its students, and spent his time there using music as a vehicle for empowering the students that they serviced. Trebles and Blues continues to use music as a creative outlet for himself and for his surrounding community. As the musical landscape continues to progress and evolve, Trebles hopes to delve deeper into the artform and discover different ways to further his curiosity and creativity.
