Ian Wacksman is a name resonating through the New York City music scene, known for his extraordinary talent and unique approach to drumming. Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Ian began his musical journey at the age of 8, starting with basic rock beats and evolving into a dynamic drummer with a passion for jazz and diverse styles. His high school years were marked by mentorship from renowned drummers such as Bonny B of Spyro Gyra, Obed Calvaire, and Dana Hall, Director of Jazz Studies at DePaul University. His talent also earned him spots in prestigious programs such as the Lincoln Center Summer Jazz Academy (2018) and NYO Jazz under Sean Jones (2019 & 2020). These experiences have shaped Ian's unique musical identity and fueled his growth as a compelling performer. Now a resident of New York City, Ian recently graduated from the Manhattan School of Music, with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance (Drum Set). During his studies he had the privilege to study with luminaries such as Kendrick Scott, John Riley, Jaleel Shaw, and John Benitez.  Ian’s dedication and talent also earned him a place in the prestigious Jazz Aspen Academy, further enriching his musical education and experience.  Since moving to New York, Ian has become a regular performer in the city’s vibrant jazz scene, playing gigs frequently and collaborating with various musicians at numerous venues, including Carnegie Hall, The Jazz Gallery, and Nublu. This past summer, he toured Mexico with Juilliard alum and Michael Bublé trumpeter Anthony Hervey, performing in some of the country’s finest theaters, such as Conjunto Santander and El Cantoral. He also held a week-long residency at the Burlington Jazz Festival alongside Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition Award winner Tyreek McDole.
