Satchel "Satchy" Brown is Pasadena-based singer, songwriter, and producer. He began exploring music at a young age taking piano lessons and writing raps in a journal around the age of 13. When Satchy started to teach himself how to play guitar, he began performing with a band playing punk and garage rock. While attending CalArts, Satchy began to channel his interest in jazz (which he gained from his dad), hip-hop, and soul to create a unique blend of luscious textured indie rock music. Backed up with his band of jazz musicians, Satchy sings with vulnerable, love-ridden thoughts over smooth guitar chords and sprinkles of saxophone riffs wading alongside hip-hop rhythms to create moody, sensual soundscapes. Satchy released his last album, Brown Lotus, in August 2019 and has performed with acts like TEMPOREX, Crumb, and Hana Vu to name a few. "At first, Satchy’s music sounds like a lovely anachronism, another textural throwback to a different part of our constantly repurposed past, this one to a moment in the 1970s and ’80s when soul-jazz mixed with rhythm and blues and a wonderfully adult Black pop came pouring out. But when guitarist Satchel “Satchy” Brown starts singing in a way that announces a love of classic alternative rock and indie-pop, the way-back machine breaks down.
