[00:00.00] 作词 : Laurie Anderson
[00:01.00] 作曲 : Laurie Anderson
[00:53.22]And so finally here we are at the beginning of a whole new era
[01:01.53]The start of a brand new world
[01:06.48]And now what
[01:08.43]How do we start
[01:11.55]How do we begin again
[01:19.02]There are some things you can simply look up such as:
[01:23.40]The size of Greenland the dates of the famous 19th century rubber wars Persian adjectives the composition of snow
[01:39.09]And other things you just have to guess at
[01:46.68]And then again today's the day and those were the days and now these are the days and now the clock points histrionically to noon
[01:56.73]Some new kind of north
[01:59.82]And so which way do we go
[02:09.75]What are days for
[02:14.34]To wake us up to put between the endless nights
[02:24.51]And by the way here's my theory of punctuation:
[02:29.10]Instead of a period at the end of each sentence there should be a tiny clock that shows you how long it took you to write that sentence
[02:43.83]And another way to look at time is this:
[02:46.05]There was an old married couple and they had always hated each other never been able to stand the sight of each other really
[02:57.54]And when they were in their nineties they finally got divorced
[03:02.70]And people said:Why did you wait so long Why didn't you do this a whole lot earlier
[03:14.16]And they said:Well we wanted to wait until the children died
[03:27.12]Ah America
[03:30.21]And yes that will be America
[03:33.66]A whole new place just waiting to happen
[03:39.39]Broken up parking lots rotten dumps speed balls accidents and hesitations
[03:48.72]Things left behind
[03:51.36]Styrofoam computer chips
[04:02.94]And Jim and John oh they were there
[04:06.48]And Carol too
[04:08.07]Her hair pinned up in that weird beehive way she loved so much
[04:17.51]And Greg and Phil moving at the pace of summer
[04:22.62]And Uncle Al who screamed all night in the attic
[04:26.91]Yes something happened to him in the war they said over in France
[04:31.71]And France had become something they never mentioned
[04:36.48]Something dangerous
[04:46.83]Yeah some were sad to see those days disappear
[04:52.32]The flea markets and their smells the war
[04:57.36]All the old belongings strewn out on the sidewalks
[05:02.70]Mildewed clothes and old resentments and ragged record jackets
[05:12.21]And ah these days
[05:15.93]Oh these days
[05:20.13]What are days for
[05:24.39]To wake us up to put between the endless nights
[05:37.50]And meanwhile all over town checks are bouncing and accounts are being automatically closed
[05:45.45]Passwords are expiring
[05:47.64]And everyone's counting and comparing and predicting
[05:50.73]Will it be the best of times will it be the worst of times or will it just be another one of those times
[06:02.67]Show of hands please
[06:13.77]And ah this world which like Kierkegaard said can only be understood when lived backwards
[06:25.71]Which would entail an incredible amount of planning and confusion
[06:33.03]And then there are those big questions always in the back of your mind
[06:38.28]Things like:Are those two people over there actually my real parents
[06:47.94]Should I get a second Prius
[06:52.71]And you you who can be silent in four languages:Your silence will be considered your consent
[07:13.44]Oh but those were the days before the audience and what the audience wanted and what the audience said it wanted
[07:27.42]And you know the reason I really love the stars is that we cannot hurt them
[07:37.74]We can't burn them or melt them or make them overflow
[07:43.47]We can't flood them or blow them up or turn them out
[07:52.11]But we are reaching for them
[07:58.11]We are reaching for them
[08:10.26]Some say our empire is passing as all empires do
[08:18.66]And others haven't a clue what time it is or where it goes or even where the clock is
[08:31.17]And oh the majesty of dreams
[08:36.29]An unstoppable train
[08:40.55]Different colored wonderlands
[08:45.54]Freedom of speech and sex with strangers
[08:59.13]Dear old God:May I call you old
[09:07.98]And may I ask:Who are these people
[09:10.26]Ah America
[09:16.44]We saw it
[09:18.51]We tipped it over and then we sold it
[09:27.30]These are the things I whisper softly to my dolls
[09:31.83]Those heartless little thugs dressed in calico kilts and jaunty hats and their perpetual white toothy smiles
[09:44.22]And oh my brothers
[09:48.09]And oh my sisters
[09:51.39]What are days for
[09:55.77]Days are where we live
[10:00.60]They flow and then they flow
[10:03.78]They come they fade they go and they go
[10:09.81]No way to know exactly when they start or when their time is up
[10:17.43]Oh another day another dime
[10:24.96]Another day in America
[10:30.21]Another day another dollar
[10:37.38]Another day in America
[10:46.23]And all my brothers
[10:49.65]And all my long lost sisters
[10:57.30]How do we begin again
[11:05.10]How do we begin
