远在美国的“海滩男孩”大概是第一个受英国迷幻影响而转变风格的美国乐队，乐队灵魂人物布莱恩·威尔逊服用LSD后性情大变，开始拒绝和乐队巡演，躲在录音室研究录音技术，并于1966年出版了这张《宠物之声》，使用了大量复杂的录音技术。这首歌改编自织布工乐队的《帆船约翰B号》
Brian不是因为LSD而有什么性情大变，他本来就有心理问题，频繁的演出导致他身心越来越疲惫，压力越来越大，64年末某次在飞机上急性焦虑发作才导致他决定待在家里专心创作的，这之后他才碰了各种药物包括LSD。
