1967年十二月七号，他把这首歌曲录制下来，在歌曲的开头加上了海浪和海鸥的声音，用柔和的节奏唱出一个孤独男人心中的渴望。三天之后，他登上刚购买的双引擎小飞机，前往康乃狄格演出。起飞后不久，飞机在离机场四英里的地方坠毁，沉没在冰冷的湖水中，Otis Redding结束了短短的一生，只活了二十六岁。

据报道最后吹口哨那一段其实本来是要录制的，但是otis三天后就死于飞机失事，所以最后的成品只能用口哨代替 otis死于26岁
