Grayson的祖父是朝鲜战争中美军的排长，并总是对Grayson讲这样一个故事。1952年在一个下雪的夜晚，他带领12名士兵进行夜间巡逻并通过雷区。在通过雷区时，地雷探测器无法工作，因为雪太深了，探测不到任何地雷。所以他们决定每一步都做一次赌注，随后士兵会沿着他所走的脚印前进。
关于这个Snowmine这个名字，我一直认为很美丽，其实是很悲伤的。主唱Grayson在2014年Brittany Spanos的一次采访中，提到过乐队名字，事实上它来自一个真实的故事。
不幸的是，雪被踩后开始了压缩，地雷开始在后面爆炸。当他们到达了另一边，失去了几乎每个士兵，除了他自己和另一个。他回忆起那天在韩国的雪山上醒来的情景，他觉得这可能时他一生中最美丽、最黑暗的一天。
虽然音乐是以黑暗为主纹理，但你却可以从中感觉到积极的一面。
第一张专辑Laminate Pet Animal写的是一个非常有趣也黑暗的时期，Grayson已经离开了他的工作和放弃了财产，周游九个月，写下了思想和灵感。乐队真正的灵感是来自60年代的老Bossa录音，因为他们觉得Stan Getz的东西很特别，Brazilan Bossa Nova的忧郁并不会使人感到懒洋洋的。
乐队成员有：新古典作曲家，同时也是乐队的主唱Grayson Sanders；男低音Jay Goodman；鼓手Alex Beckmann……Grayson的唱功常被人对比Fleet Foxes乐队的Robin Pecknold和My Morning Jacket乐队的Jim Jones。
乐队在纽约的独立舞台上演奏很多年后，命名为Snowmine。乐队的作品也是和故事一样，相当的忧郁，旋律带着黑暗的纹理。
Dialects是方言的意思，以Grayson所见到的影响他创作的音乐为视角。人们都讲的同一种语言，但大多数情况下都无法互相理解，就像每个人都有自己的"方言"一样。
随后乐队建立了自己的厂牌“神秘建筑”（Mestery Building）。在资金上，Snowmine依靠不多的粉丝群体完成了众筹并成功发布专辑。众筹过程中并没有用Kickstarter或Indiegogo等众筹平台，因为它们在筹款三个月内都不会收到这笔钱，这往往会使一开始兴奋的艺术家们失望，他们觉得这对艺术家没有太大帮助。
