机翻的歌词差强人意。不了解艾略特，没体会过抑郁的感受，就不会明白歌名起的那般的，在人群里时时刻刻如针扎的感受。
“大海捞针”是描述在一个巨大的空间里寻找细小的东西的短语。这个短语可能来源于米格尔·德·塞万提斯17世纪的小说《堂吉诃德》在第三卷第十章，英文翻译是:“就像在干草瓶子里找针一样。”“Bottle”是古英语中是bundle的意思，也就是干草。
这首歌有很大可能是Smith的自传，从“You ought to be proud that I'm getting good marks”也可以看出他是一个非常聪明的人，尽管与药物滥用与抑郁症斗争，他依旧能取得好的成绩。
最后的“marks”同样是个双关，有可能是Smith在学校时的成绩，也有可能是指寻找heroin的“成绩”，或者两者兼而有之。
