这首歌本名为"The Old Triangle"，作者为Brendan Behan，是其剧目《The Quare Fellow》的介绍曲。这里的"Triangle"指都柏林Mountjoy监狱(剧作者曾被关押此处)里的铁三角，狱卒每天会在特定的时间点敲响它，比如起床时间。直到今天，那个铁三角和与之配套的锤子依旧挂在监狱的墙上，但已经不被使用了。
