改编自老布鲁斯“Gallis Pole”，除了齐柏林之外还有不少翻唱版本。不过齐柏林版有一个与众不同地方：大多数版本的歌词最后，那个即将被绞死的人被收了贿赂的行刑者释放了，而在齐柏林的版本里，行刑者收完贿赂之后哈哈大笑，然后绞死了这个人。
Page甚至在录这首歌的过程中自学起了班卓琴，他后来提到，以前自己从没弹过这种乐器。Jones将一把琴扔在角落里，他就拿起来摆弄，直到它发出悦耳的声音。

这故事好耳熟 页老师好像也对囧po囧的曼德琳做出过同样的事情。。。
歌词其实有点鬼畜，一个死刑犯让自己的姐姐用身体去“温暖”行刑人，还让哥哥拿钱去贿赂他。结果啥都干了，最后行刑人还是杀了他。
Page当时对布鲁斯巨匠Lead Belly非常着迷，他是从民谣吉他手Fred Gerlach那里接触到Belly的作品的。而两个人都曾演绎过Gallows Pole这首古老的歌谣。Led Zeppelin把它借用过来并成功地展示了自己无与伦比的天赋：他们能自如地从和蔼的原声段落切换到猛烈的电声段落。
歌词看上去很鬼畜但我又觉得悲伤😔 男主想尽办法，他的家人出钱又出色相，男主还是被吊死了

用极富张力的声音推进这个故事的同时，普兰塑造了一个恶魔般的行刑者的形象。主人公临死前的哀求与努力引人同情。故事结尾对主人公之死的描写则几乎含着一丝残忍与冷漠。与原版相比，我更喜欢艇这版的改编，主人公令人动容的求生之情配上结局那戏谑滑稽的景象，显得荒诞又悲凉。
