这首歌应该是基于一首叫sixteen tons的歌创作的，属于labour shanty，翻译过来可以叫劳动号子。最常见的应该是sea shanty，是水手唱的。labour shanty的内容一般都是工人的辛勤劳动以及公司对他们的剥削。那个年代这种曲风可以是蓝调/爵士/乡村/民谣混合体，因为很多风格可能是从shanty中演变来的。
