速可达（Scooters），即小摩托，是摩斯族社交生活的必备交通工具，同时，也是摩斯族时尚的标志之一。一般地，摩斯族会选择进口的意大利伟士牌和兰美达速可达。内置式引擎的速可达，可以让骑士穿着其昂贵的西服端坐在上面，前面板及下踏板又不会让裤管卷入链条或弄脏鞋子。
20世纪50年代，英国时尚文化受国外多元文化影响，逐渐形成一种摩登时尚的亚文化，称Mod。而被这种文化所浸透的年轻一代被称为Mods，又称摩斯族。最早期的摩斯族从工人阶级兴起，很多人都是劳工和二战以后士兵的下一代。他们不仅有稳定的收入，同时热爱音乐，乐于为娱乐、交通工具以及服装等花销买单。
在驾驶速可达时，摩斯族会穿上带有帽兜的军绿色美军大衣，也就是美军所使用的大衣，当初二次大战时英美是盟军，英国对于美军的物品取得也方便。为了骑车或修车时，不让污渍沾染里面昂贵的西装，有人穿上了美军大衣，后来这一装扮被大家争相模仿，也造就了Mods最明显的行头。
早期的摩登族是时尚的代名词，后期的摩登族去演变为摩登暴力的形象。1962年，媒体开始报道摩斯族的时尚形象与生活方式。他们依靠一种药物安非他命来彻夜狂欢。到了1964年，摩登暴力开始更多地出现在报纸头条。作为摩斯族死对头的摇滚骑士，常与摩斯族青年在布莱顿和其他的英格兰南部海边城市发生冲突。
摩斯族对于着装的要求十分考究。他们身上穿着的必须是剪裁极佳且时尚的意大利西装及不打褶且改短成七分的西裤，裤子的长度还有外套侧孔等小细节都必须分毫不差。
