[00:00.00]A credit card that only works when it hears its owner's voice has been developed by US scientists.
[00:06.84]Researchers hope that the device,
[00:09.07]which comes with a built-in voice recognition chip and microphone,
[00:13.87]will be a weapon in the battle against credit card fraud.
[00:17.97]Even if thieves know a card's password and personal identification number,
[00:23.43]they will still have to copy the owner's voice accurately.
[00:27.84]The trial card was created by scientists at Beecard in California US.
[00:34.36]The first version is three times as thick as a normal credit card,
[00:39.21]but researchers believe smaller chips will allow the card
[00:42.82]to slim down to a more conventional size.
[00:46.50]The card is apparently the first to put a voice recognition chip, a microphone, speaker and battery into a credit card.
[00:55.30]To use the card, the owner first presses a button and hears the prompt "Say your password".
[01:02.63]If the password is correct and spoken by the right person,
[01:07.70]the card emits an identification signal
[01:11.00]which is processed by a computer connected to the Internet.
[01:15.41]Researchers hope to get the card to handle ten transactions per day for two years
[01:21.31]before its non-replaceable battery runs out.
