这首歌本质上是一首带有明显嘻哈模仿色彩的放克作品。整体结构围绕高度重复的节拍循环展开，鼓机节奏占据主导位置，搭配断裂式的节奏切分与低频推进，形成接近舞厅取向的律动框架。 Prince在演唱中采用接近说唱的语速与重音配置，并在歌词中以夸张、带有调侃意味的方式，直接反讽当时部分主流嘻哈音乐人“只会说唱却无法歌唱”的现象，明确表达对当时嘻哈潮流的保留态度。 作品中还直接取样了Sheila E.歌曲《Holly Rock》中的一句人声片段“badder than a wicked witch”。 在演出层面，《Dead On It》并未以完整曲目频繁登台，但其音乐元素曾多次被拆解使用。1987年欧洲巡演期间，部分段落被嵌入《It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night》的现场演出中；1992年巴黎演出时，其节奏片段又被用作《Jughead》的导入桥段。同样在1992年的Diamonds And Pearls Tour中，Tony M.也曾以现场说唱方式重新演绎该曲中的嘻哈节奏元素。
