[00:08.97]He retired from Howard University in Washington, D.C. about five years ago.
[00:15.32]Mr. Feldman says when he retired he thought he would like to do something he had not done before.
[00:22.35]Yet, he said, he was not really interested in spending a lot of time as a student in a classroom,
[00:28.63]writing papers and taking tests.
[00:31.16]One day Mr. Feldman found a list of classes offered at a college near his home.
[00:37.79]The college lets people sixty years and older who live in the county take classes.
[00:44.92]They do not have to pay the normal tuition cost, just the cost of supplies.
[00:51.06]Mr. Feldman decided to try a sculpture class.
[00:54.76]It teaches students how to make art out of clay, wood, metal and plastic.
[01:00.67]And it meets only one day a week.
[01:03.37]Martin Feldman says he quickly decided he really liked sculpture.
[01:08.35]So he has continued with the class,
[01:10.88]experimenting with combining different materials and shapes.
[01:15.63]Most big universities have continuing education programs
[01:20.54]that offer traditional classes for older adults who want to continue learning.
[01:25.98]Some provide training programs that give people who complete them
[01:30.36]a certificate to prove they have gained new skills.
[01:34.12]Many smaller colleges offer traditional classes at lower cost
[01:38.85]and provide other programs for older adults in their area who have different educational needs.
